The Agony in the Garden, also known as The Prayer in the Garden, is one of Raphael’s famous early works. Painted either at the very end of the 15th century or the onset of the 16th, it captures a poignant moment from the life of Christ. The painting portrays Christ praying to God for the strength to face his forthcoming crucifixion, while his disciples sleep unaware of the imminent events.
